Wow! It’s 2010 and the start of a new decade. 2009 was an exciting time for APA with growth in membership even during a time of economic crises. APA continues to face challenges just as our members do but we will continue to move forward and offer a place for members to improve their business. Many APA offerings in cooperation with our sponsors help SAVE YOU MONEY.
There have been some new additions to our Sponsor family. Dripbook, Resource Magazine and Photocrew have partnered with APA to increase benefits and bring a stronger community to our membership. Please check out all the benefits offered APA members by going to our website, www.apanational.com, and checking it all out. Besides the National Sponsors there are many more supporters of APA at the Chapter level that sponsor events for members. We need to thank them all.
Our forums are excellent avenues of communication and information, APAnet and APAdigital. They are not restricted to members only so the whole photo community is able to participate. One issue that has been discussed recently is the changes in carry-on luggage restrictions due to the failed attempt of terrorism over the holidays. A source I found for great travel information is a blog run by photographer Steven Frischling. It’s called Flying with Fish, http://boardingarea.com/blogs/flyingwithfish/, and I think you will find it very interesting. The unfortunate thing about carry-on is that the airlines have pretty much all the control. Something that Steven Frischling told me was that using cargo shipping on airlines is often the best option. It will be less expensive than extra baggage and weight charges and can often be used on the flight the traveler will be on. It takes planning but definetly worth checking out.
Please check out the link in this newsletter to APA Atlanta’s event, Help-Portrait Atlanta. You’ll find it a heart warming story and such a worth while event held during the holiday season.
One of the best parts of my job is meeting APA members when I travel. During 2010 I hope to meet more of you and I look forward to representing APA wherever I am.
Thank you,
Stephen Best
